Rider Choices – Rider Tips #63

“What if?” is a great way to anticipate potential Factors, Traps, and Escapes. Knowing an average perception reaction time can be helpful.

Perceiving how long it will take to stop helps determine how much safety margin is necessary. Anticipating Factors, Traps, and Escapes early can provide the ability to respond to dangerous situations – before we have to react in crash prevention.

Using a strategy like SEE (Search, Evaluate, Execute) to perceive hazards in advance helps prevent Factors from becoming Traps we cannot react to. Practice your perceptions at https://www.msf-usa.org/riderperception.aspx
