Rider Choices – Rider Tips #67

Scanning with your eyes helps to identify hazards before they become dangerous. For example, Searching for Escape Paths can give you an out to make a bad situation better.

Humans are creatures of habit, so building a search “habit” helps to prioritize what’s important – including potential Escape Paths. The SEE – Z scan reinforces far-near, and side-to-side searching to anticipate Factors, Traps, and be aware of Escapes. A good scan can provide the ability to respond to dangerous situations – before we have to react in crash prevention.

Using our “Eyes and Mind” and a strategy like SEE (Search, Evaluate, Execute) -Z (far-near, side-to-side in a Z pattern) to perceive hazards helps prevent Factors from becoming Traps we cannot react to.
