Skill is important, but it is only one factor in surviving the ride. To anticipate potential Factors, Traps, and Escapes we need to use our “Eyes and Mind!”
Perceiving how long it will take to stop requires our “Eyes and Mind” to help determine how much safety margin is necessary. Anticipating Factors, Traps, and Escapes early can provide the ability to respond to dangerous situations – before we have to react in crash prevention.
Using our “Eyes and Mind” and a strategy like SEE (Search, Evaluate, Execute) to perceive hazards in advance helps prevent Factors from becoming Traps we cannot react to. Practice your perceptions at https://www.msf-usa.org/riderperception.aspx
