Passion Primer

Sometimes I have to remind myself – everything I share or think of has already been said or shared before. What I also have to consider is not everyone may have been exposed to it or have seen it in the context I am considering it in. To quote Rita Lybek Murphy, “Everything relates back to the Basic Rider Course (BRC.”

A book finished earlier last year called “The Character Edge: Leading and Winning with Integrity” by by Robert L. Caslen Jr. and Michael D. Matthews. I have served with Lt. General Caslen (U.S. Army Ret.), and I will never forget a discussion where his passion impacted my development as a somewhat elder Lieutenant coming of age after almost nine years of service. Now he continues to inspire after another 20 plus years and a successful career culminating as the Superintendent for the U.S. Army’s West Point Military Academy. His more recent writings continue to support his leadership character with “Passion – When you don’t negotiate the price of success — Robert L. Caslen, Jr. (robertcaslen.com)

I suggest looking at his work as his passion about leadership is undeniable, much like my desire for Rider Education seems to focus my efforts to contribute and share as much as possible. To give more context, I have found action to be much more contributory than talk. It is not what we talk about that changes our profession, although discussion and collaboration is an important factor. What is MORE important is what actions we take to move our profession along the continuum, in adapting to the context we currently live.

It takes passion to take action and follow through, day after day, week after week, year after year. Make an impact, share your passion, and be a member of the Tribe making a difference with Rider Education.
